Elizabeth Shaw O’Toole, Race Officer

PHRF-NS Inshore Racing Course

Elizabeth Shaw O’Toole is a professional sailor and race official who currently works for the Volvo Ocean Race and as a contributor to the Magenta Project, an international organization focused on accelerating women in sailing. Previously, she was the Training Program Director for Oakcliff Sailing, a high performance training center in Oyster Bay, NY. Having previously been involved in 5 past editions of Chester Race Week, both as Race Officer and PRO/Head of Race Management, Elizabeth looks forward to bringing her experience of thousands of races run back to home waters in 2018.

Daniel Conrod, Pro

PHRF-NS Distance Racing Course

A Halifax Native, Daniel has been involved in Race Management for just over a decade now. Starting off as a mark boat for The Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, Daniel’s resume now includes Race Management for the ISAF World Cup, The PanAmerican Games, The Canada Games. Daniel is returning for his 5th stint with the Bravo Course and promises not to send the entire fleet around little Tancook this year.

Peter van Muyden, Race Officer


Peter Van Muyden is an International Race Office from Edmonton. Peter first grew up sailing in Edmonton in 1976 and has been involved in Race Management since the mid 1980’s. Peter has been involved with 7 World Cup Sailing Events, 4 Canada Summer Games, 14 World Championships and 11 Youth National Events in Canada and Australia. Peter sits on 2 boards with Sail Canada and is a member of the Wabamun Sailing Club.

Brian Todd, Race Officer


Brian Todd has been involved with Chester Race Week since 2010. Recognizing the growth in One Design racing, Brian set up the One Design Race Circle and has been Race Officer on the Course during Race Week ever since. A former Finn sailor and a noted Canadian Sailing Team Coach for Laser, Radial, 470 and the Paralympic Athletes, Brian provides an amazing One Design experience for the J24, Sonars, Farr 30’s, the International One Designs and the J’70ties.

Patricia Finlay, Race Officer

Classics: Pursuit Racing

Trish Finlay grew up sailing in Bedford, where she raced both dinghies and keelboats. As a teenager, working with her mother, she helped start races and ran a mark boat for younger sailors. In the mid 90’s she moved to Chester with my family where she has taught Jr. Sailing at Chester Yacht Club and has worked as a race officer for Chester Race Week, Opti Jam and various other regattas hosted at Chester Yacht Club for over ten years.
